Robbie's 3 year check up

Even though I've been telling Robbie for a few days that he was going to see the doctor this morning, he still acted like it was new news to him.  Unfortunately it seems like the only thing he remembers from going to the doctor is the shots.  He kept saying "I don't want to go to the doctor!  It hurts me!"  As soon as he saw the building he started crying (even harder than he was).  Matt came in after us (we drove separately so he could go to work afterward) and said he could hear Robbie crying downstairs (the office is on the 3rd floor) and the doctor said he heard Robbie and wondered if that was his patient (sorry, doc!).  I wasn't expecting it to be a great visit, but Robbie did great with the nurse taking his weight, blood pressure, temperature and height and the doctor made some silly noises as he was checking Robbie's hips and ankles as well as his reflexes.  Robbie gave the doctor a hi-five at the end and told him what he and Alex were going to be for Halloween.  Luckily for Robbie he didn't get any shots this time, just the flu mist.  Alex did get his flu shot this morning, though.  I brought lollipops for them and that kept the tears to a minimum!

Robbie grew 3 inches (I thought it might be more) and 1 1/2 lbs since last year (that's according to their records since I don't think the nurse was right about his weight last year) and is now in the 90th percentile for height (the height of an average 4 year old!) and 75th percentile for weight (down from the 90th!).  Cousin Brian is also tall for his age and Lisa told me that Robbie is as tall as Brian was at 3.  I knew we had tall genes to pass on!

We went from the doctor's office to Mother's Morning Out.  The class had a fall party, though there have been a lot of kids out lately and only 4 were in his class this week.  We were asked to bring in grapes (cut in half) for the class and I cut enough just in case all of the kids decided to show up today.  They didn't.  Luckily the director, Karyn, told me that they shared the grapes with other classes hoping I wouldn't mind.  I was quite happy to not come home with a bowl full of grapes!  I asked Robbie about his party and he said "Miss Karyn came to our party.  It was a lot of fun!  We shared our cupcakes with her!"  I'm sure the mom who brought in the cupcakes was more than happy to share them, too.

Pumpkin Patch and Zoo Spooktacular

Last Wednesday was the 4th Wednesday of the month which means it's play date Wednesday with Mom to Mom.  This month is was a trip to the pumpkin patch.  Robbie was really excited about going, but once we got there he didn't want to leave the play house.  He pretty much acted like he owned it and was the self-appointed bouncer.  Eventually we did watch a cute video and decorated a pumpkin.  I did get some good pictures, too!

"May I see your ID?"

"Hi!"

And a lot of Robbie that are just too good to not share!

Last night we went to the Spooktacular at the zoo.  We got there when it started and that was probably a bad idea, because there were a ton of people there, too, so it was very crowded and hard to stop and look at the decorations without feeling like you just caused a traffic jam.  Most of the animals were in their rooms sleeping, so there wasn't a lot to see, but they handed out candy and that was what the kids thought was important!  Robbie asked to go back to the zoo today, but maybe we will again soon.

I think he gave a talk at the beginning, but I was trying to help Alex decide if he wanted in our out of the stroller.  (Answer: Out, but carried.)

"I'm Batman!"

He's such a cute pirate even if he's blurry!

Hi-fiving Linus (Again, a ton of people were there and I couldn't just stop to ask them to pose.)

Alex wasn't too in to taking pictures with the characters.

Robbie didn't want to get close to this bear!

Cute signs

Robbie had fun checking out these skeletons.  They were black-lit, but you can't tell when I take a picture with the flash.

I don't think we'll go back again until the kids are older and we can go a little later.  We brought pajamas to put the kids in afterward and Alex fell asleep in the car.  Robbie still had a little energy left but didn't stay up much later!

Robbie is 3!!!

Saturday was Robbie's 3rd birthday.  It's nice that his birthday landed on a Saturday and we were able to have his party on his birthday, too.  We invited his friends from school (the kids that he usually talks about came) and friends from Mom to Mom (ok, they might be more my friends, but they have kids about Robbie's age and they do play together sometimes).

Robbie loves showing how many fingers he is!

We let Robbie open his gift from Alex first.

"It's a helmet for my new bike!"  (Unfortunately he saw his bike the night before when Matt had it out to put it in the garage after it had been in my closet.)

We still made him "open" his bike anyway!

Grandma brought donuts for breakfast and Grandpa and GiGi brought bagels.  Robbie still asks if we have any chocolate bagels left!  After lunch he opened presents from Nana, Uncle Mark, and Mimi and Gramps.

After that round of presents we headed to the park where we had his party.  It's a nice and shady park with plenty of equipment for all of the kids.  All Robbie wanted to do was eat his cake, so Matt told him that it was frozen and we had to wait to eat it.  Surprisingly, Robbie bought it and ran off to play with his friends.  Lunch was pizza, crackers and fruit plus plenty of juice and sodas to make sure all of the kids had lots of energy to play!

Buffet style lunch.

Campbell, Isabella, Canon, Robbie and Ava refueling.

Unfortunately it was windy when we did the cake, but Robbie didn't seem to mind that the wind blew out his candles.  Of course we acted like he did it!

Even though Robbie said he wasn't going to take a nap, both he and Alex fell asleep on the way home from the park.  I think if the grandparents hadn't checked out of their hotel rooms there may have been more nappers that afternoon!

After nap time Robbie opened presents from Aunt Brittany, Grandpa and GiGi.  Brittany shipped the gifts down and I wrapped them for her and it ended up that we had the same wrapping paper as Jim and Jean!

Opening his new Octonauts book that we have read every day (several times!) since he got it.

"It's all about Octonauts!"

A big bag full of presents!

Unfortunately Mark wasn't feeling well and he and Barbara left earlier than planned.  After dinner Robbie got to open presents from Grandma and Abuelo, Uncle Jonathan and Aunt Chat, and Aunt Lisa and Uncle Erik.

Opening his Tag reader from Grandma and Abuelo.

Another Tag book from Jonathan and Chat.

I have to say that Robbie was absolutely spoiled on his birthday, but he loved it and we are always thankful for our families!

Of course, birthday fun doesn't end on birthdays!  Robbie still had some presents from friends to open Sunday.  Matt and I talked about converting Robbie's crib to a toddler bed on his birthday.  That didn't happen because Robbie fell asleep in the car before nap time and we were all too tired to do it that night!  I did it Wednesday and told Robbie that we would surprise Daddy when he got him.  When Matt did get home from work Robbie said "I have a big boy bed.  Surprise!" :)  He did great a nap time Wednesday and didn't get up until 4.  Unfortunately that night he came in our room at 3:30 and said "Mommy, I have something to tell you.  Let's go to the computer room.  Not you, Daddy.  You don't feel good."  We talked to Robbie a lot yesterday about staying in his bed until 6 and he did great last night.

I told Robbie to lay in bed and this is as good as it got because he didn't want to be still!

Today Robbie got his presents from Uncle Nick and Aunt Robyn.  They boys were already playing outside when Matt got the mail and were excited to have new chalk to color the sidewalk with.  We read his 2 new books at bedtime and will have to try his new puzzle tomorrow.

What a fun week!
